Upon arriving at the lodge, the local staff will welcome group and discuss the 2 night program. (Total drive time is approx. 4 hours)

Located in the extreme northeast of Costa Rica, Tortuguero is accessible only by small plane or boat, along the famous Tortuguero Canals. This system of rivers and man-made channels parallels the coast and cuts through beautiful primary forest. The area was turned into a national park in 1975. It is one of the areas with the greatest biological diversity of the country. The name Tortuguero relates to the Spanish word for turtle as this is the most important nesting site in the entire western half of the Caribbean for the green turtle. Other species of sea turtles like the leatherback and hawksbill also nest on the wide beaches of the park and refuge where most exploring is done by small boat, although some hiking trails are available. There is a small village and a good offer of hotels and tours to fully enjoy this wondrous place.

Mawamba Lodge is a casual resort in Tortuguero, nestled on the narrow strip of land between the Caribbean Sea and the Tortuguero Lagoon. Its 15-acre site borders the turtle nesting beaches and offers incomparable opportunities to observe wildlife.

Tour packages include land and boat transportation, lodging, all meals, and selected tours with a bilingual naturalist guide

The National Park is a wilderness area with extraordinary biological variety. Diverse mammals, birds and fish live in eleven different defined habitats. The Leatherback, the largest sea turtle of the world, nests from February to July. Most exploring of the park is done by boat. With the establishment of Manuel Antonio National Park in 1972, the people of Costa Rica decided to preserve for future generations one of the most beautiful and bio-diverse areas in the world. Although it is the country’s smallest national park, the stunning beauty and diversity of wildlife in its 683 hectares is unequaled. Manuel Antonio contains a charming combination of rain forest, beaches, and coral reefs. These beaches are the most beautiful in the country, lined with lush forest, and excellent snorkeling. The forest is home to sloths, iguanas, the rare and adorable squirrel monkeys, and millions of colorful little crabs. It is one of the smallest parks in Costa Rica, but it is the most visited due to its varied fauna with 109 species of mammals and 184 of birds. This Park is just south of Quepos on the Pacific Coast, 132 km from San José. It is so popular because of its expansive white sand beaches backed by an evergreen forest that grows right up to the high tide line.
